  • George D. Herriott was born on May 9, 1846 in Boston, Massachusetts.1,2
  • He was the son of Reuben Randolph Herriott and Sophia H. Howard.1
  • The census of 1860 shows:
    George Herriot, 14, attending school; in the household of
    Reuben Herriot, 52, a broker with $1500 real estate; and Martha Herriot, 40;
    living at Somerville P.O., Medford, Massachusetts.3

  • Enlisted Dec. 30, 1863, Medford, Mass., as Private, 3rd Mass. Regt. Discharged Oct. 2, 1865, Washington, at end of term. In 1888, while in Medford, he was diagnosed with insufficient mitral valve of heart, chronic bronchitis, varicose veins in both legs, and chronic rheumatism.

    He had light complexion, gray eyes, fair hair. He could read and write. Religion shown as Protestant, occupation: clerk

    He was admitted to the U.S. National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Togus, Maine on May 1, 1898, discharged July 21, 1900, but re-admitted March 21, 1901.2
  • George married Emma Frances Spencer on April 7, 1869.4
  • George D. Herriott and Emma Frances Spencer were divorced between 1880 and 1900.5,6
  • George died on November 15, 1934 in Medford, Massachusetts, at age 88.7
