Thomas Hinckley1

  • Thomas Hinckley was born on March 19, 1680/81 in Barnstable, Massachusetts.1
  • He was the son of Samuel Hinckley and Sarah Pope.1
  • In the 1688 of Thomas Hinckley Jr., he left to his nephew Thomas Hinckley, son of Samuel, one fourth of his "uplande lying within the common field gate and all the rest of my upland," with "housing thereupon," plus one fourth of "my meadows in Barnstable and Yarmouth."2
  • His father Samuel's will, dated March 12, 1696/97 left one half of the goods and land to his widow, and one half to his eldest son Thomas, who was then only 16 years old. He also mentioned "all my children," although naming only the eldest son. "I will and bequeath unto my son Thomas Hinckley ye other half of all my sd lands and housing to him and his heirs and assigns forever, provided he shall confirm ye conveyance of ye lands which I have sold of his unto Samuel Cob and Henry Cobb which wear given to my sd son by his uncle Thomas Hinckley in his last will and testament and my said son Thomas shall have all ye money now due me from Richard Childs Eliazer Crocker and Jonathan Crocker being part of the money which I sold his land for."3

  • Administration on his estate was granted October 4, 1710 to "Marcey Hinckley of Harwich in sd County widow Relict of Thomas Hinckley late of sd Harwich now deceased."4

  • Thomas Hinckley was born on March 11, 1708/9 in Harwich, Massachusetts.1
  • He was the son of Thomas Hinckley and Mercy Bangs.1
  • Thomas Hinckley was baptized on April 22, 1711 in Brewster, Massachusetts.2
  • Thomas married Ruth Merrick on March 31, 1730 in Harwich, Massachusetts.3
  • At Harwich "Thomas Hinkley & his wife made a publick acknowledgement...[and] were accepted by ye Chh into ye arms of their charity on Oct: 18, 1730."3
  • He is supposed to have settled near Herring Pond, now Hinckley's Pond, in Harwich. He was a cordwainer and a blacksmith. He was a petitioner for the division of the parish in 1746, and for several years the parish assessor.3
  • As of November 11, 1757, Thomas and Joshua lived at the Oblong, New York. A long narrow strip of land in New York along its border with Connecticut, when he and his brother Thomas Hinckley of Harwich quitclaimed their interest in land in Truro that they had apparently inherited through their mother.1
  • Thomas married Lydia Nickerson of Chatham on March 5, 1765 or March 7, 1765 in Harwich, Massachusetts.3,4
  • Thomas married Hannah Severance on July 31, 1766 in Harwich, Massachusetts.3
  • An inventory was taken April 7, 1769.3

  • Thomas Hinckley was born on December 5, 1654 in Barnstable, Massachusetts.1
  • He was the son of Gov. Thomas Hinckley and Mary Richards.1
  • Thomas died in 1688, aged 34, leaving no issue.2

Thomas Hinckley1

  • He was the son of Ebenezer Hinckley and Hannah Nightingale.1
  • Thomas Hinckley was a shipmaster, and settled at first in Wellfleet, afterwards removing to Boston.2
  • Thomas married Susannah Hewes.2
  • Thomas died aged 34 during the Revolution.

    Family traditions variously assert that he died while a prisoner of war from eating peas boiled in a copper kettle, and that he died during the Revolution, after escaping from a British prison ship by swimming ashore.2,3
