Carrie A. Houghtaling¹

• Carrie A. Houghtaling was born in 1869 in Pownal, Bennington County, Vermont. She was the daughter of George Houghtaling, a blacksmith from New York, and his wife Augusta of Vermont.^2,3,4
• Carrie married Louis Ellsworth Dunton, son of Zenas Jesse Dunton and Melissa D. Sweet, on November 5, 1900 in North Adams, Massachusetts. He was a farmer. They were married by Rev. James H. Spencer, of the Baptist church.⁵
• The census of January 1, 1920 shows: Louis Ellsworth Dunton and Carrie A. Houghtaling listed with Eunice Augusta Dunton and Lois May Dunton
  living at Colrain, Massachusetts.
  The occupations of Louis, Eunice, and Lois appear to be listed as weavers at cotton work, but is quite illegible. The latter two also attended school.³
  
  
• Carrie died on December 11, 1947 in Colrain, Massachusetts.⁶

• Abel Houghton was baptized on October 31, 1784 in Harvard, Massachusetts.²
• He was the son of Major Jonathan Houghton and Rachel Hale.¹
• Abel married Betsy Green on February 15, 1808 in Waterford, Oxford County, Maine.³
• Abel married Lydia Green on December 9, 1811.⁴
• Abel Houghton served as ensign in a company of drafted men in the War of 1812, and was afterward captain of the militia.. He was an inn-keeper, a farmer and a joiner, and a leading man in the town.⁵
• Abel died on March 16, 1863 at age 78.⁶
• He was buried in Elm Vale Cemetery, Waterford, Oxford County, Maine.⁶
