- In 1739, Capt. Dea. Nathaniel Baldwin moved to Goshen, Connecticut. In all three towns in which he lived, he had the position of deacon. Possessing in a good degree the confidence of the people, he was frequently, and almost continually, called to fill some of the various town offices. Twice he was sent to represent Goshen in the legislature of the colony, viz.: in Oct., 1759, and in March, 1760, the year in which he died.4
- 'Dog Pond' is nearly two miles from Marshapaug, a little east of south of that body of water. It derives its name from the fact that a dog belonging to Deacon Nathaniel Baldwin was drowned there in the fall of 1738 as Deacon Baldwin was engaged in laying out lands.5
