Martha Belle Barker was born in 1877 or 1878 in Newport, Newport County, Rhode Island, daughter of Edward and Jane Mary (Lemmon) Barker.^1,2
Matha married Ernest Alexander Sawyer, son of George Frederick Sawyer and Mary Elizabeth Carleton, on May 26, 1906 in Bath, Sagadahoc County, Maine. He was a letter carrier, and she was a clerk. They were married by Seth O. Rogers, justice of the peace.²
As of from 1907 to 1910, Martha B. Sawyer and Earnest A. Sawyer lived at 62 Prescott Street, Somerville, Massachusetts, Ernest was a letter carrier.^1,3,4
The census of 1910 shows: Ernest A. Sawyer, 33, a letter carrier for the U.S. mail; and Martha B. Sawyer, wife, 32; listed with Charlotte W. Sawyer
living at Somerville, Massachusetts.⁴
As of December 8, 1911, Martha B. Sawyer and Ernest Alexander Sawyer lived at 65 Hancock St., Somerville, Massachusetts, Ernest was a letter carrier.⁵
The Somerville City Directory 1917 lists:
Sawyer, Ernest A (Martha B) letter carrier West Somerville P O. house 14 Charnwood rd.
The Somerville City Directory 1919 lists:
Sawyer, Ernest A (Martha B) letter carrier West Somerville P O. house 99 Pearson av.
The census of 1920 shows: Earnest A. Sawyer, 43, letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office; and Martha B. Sawyer, wife, 42; listed with Charllotte Sawyer and Earnest A. Sawyer
living at 6 Chandler Street, Somerville, Massachusetts.⁶
The Somerville City Directory from 1920 to 1925 lists:
Sawyer, Ernest A (Martha B) letter carrier P O. house 6 Chandler.
Martha died before 1930.⁷
