The census of 1900 shows: Hattie Colby, daughter, 23; and Orren E. Colby, son-in-law, 26, an express messenger; listed with Arthur Colby
living at Swanton, Franklin County, Vermont.
They were living in the home of Hattie's parents, Charlie and Ellen Tatro.¹
The census of 1910 shows: Orin E. Colby, 36, express messenger; and Harriet E. Colby, wife, 33; listed with Raymond A. Colby and Harold S. Colby
living at Lake Street, Swanton, Franklin County, Vermont.⁴
Harriet died before 1917.
On 1918 or 1919, Orren Elmus Colby enlisted for the draft. . He was an agent for American Railway Express Co., Franklin, N.H. Medium height, medium build, blue eyes and gray hair. His residence was shown as 111 N. Main, Franklin, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, and his next-of-kin was Hattie Colby.⁵
