James Woodward Abbott

b. October 29, 1956
  • Reference: 0012aabd
  • THIS LISTING HAS NOT YET BEEN AUDITED, AND MAY NOT BE ACCURATE; A.
  • James Woodward Abbott was born on October 29, 1956 in Los Angeles County, California.1
  • He is the son of Frank Warren Abbott and Eileen Lynch.1
  • James married Pamela Wilson on June 29, 1981 in Los Angeles County, California.2
  • James Woodward Abbott lived at San Marino, Los Angeles County, California,
Lived in South Pasadena, CA from 1984.

Jim graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Real Estate Finance in 1979. While attending college, he worked part-time for Coldwell Banker, known today as CBRE Commercial Real Estate Services Group. His responsibilities initially were to update Southern California industrial property market information and assist the firm's brokers with such things as market reports, presentations, financial analysis, etc.

Upon graduation from USC in June of 1979, Jim accepted a brokerage position with the real estate brokerage firm of Cushman & Wakefield of California, Inc. (C&W). Jim became part of the firm's Industrial / Technology Group. The combination of Jim's college major and C&W employment qualified him for his California Real Estate Broker License, which he immediately obtained. Jim's primary job was to perform brokerage services for industrial clients. Jim also helped C&W with recruiting, restructuring their North Los Angeles office, and broker network development.

In January 1994, as a Director of C&W, Jim was recruited by several real estate organizations to assist them with the development or expansion of their real estate companies and funds (REIT's were just coming into play). One proposal in particular caught his attention, that of assisting with the development of a master-planned industrial business park in China near the City of Shaoxing. Too intriguing to pass up, Jim resigned from C&W, and embraced this new challenge. He was given the responsibility of assembling a team of people who could best ensure the China projects' success. After several trips to Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Shaoxing, he formulated such a team and over a course of three years orchestrated the land (lease) acquisition and master planning of the development.

In 1995 after sixteen years with C&W and while in the process of forming the China development team, Jim found himself the creator and owner of Realty Advisory Group, Inc., which over the years has evolved into one of Los Angeles' most respected boutique commercial brokerage and consulting real estate firms. Jim's success as a broker, a development partner, his national and international contacts, highly regarded reputation, and keen eye for talented people will continue to prove beneficial to Realty Advisory Group's success. The network that Realty Advisory Group is constantly developing will continue to promote the Group's efforts and credibility. Jim's business perspectives and practices are all team-oriented.

Realty Advisory Group, Inc. is a real estate brokerage, consulting, and advisory firm. Realty Advisory Group, Inc. formed a non-ownership strategic alliance with Binswanger in 1999. Binswanger's global coverage, impressive market data, and Fortune 1,000 relationships combined with Realty Advisory Group's experience, contacts, and Southern California presence have successfully promoted and supported the alliance.3,4

John Abbott1

b. November 15, 1805, d. March 18, 1886
  • THIS LISTING HAS NOT YET BEEN AUDITED, AND MAY NOT BE ACCURATE; A.
  • John Abbott was born on November 15, 1805 in West Concord, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, at the old homestead on the farm which has been owned by the family since the founding of the town. He was educated in the local public schools, and early in life, engaged in the lumber business. From 1835 to 1840 he was in partnership with Captain Abel Baker, father of Governor Nathaniel Baker. Together they bought and cut off tracts of timber, and rafted their product down the Merrimack to Lowell and Boston. Mr. Abbott was an expert in woodcraft and was often called upon as referee in placing valuation upon standing timber, sometimes going as far as the Adirondacks in this capacity.1
  • He was the son of Lieutenant Amos Abbott and Judith Morse.1
  • John married Hannah Matilda Brooks on November 12, 1856 in Warner, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, at the home of her parents.1
  • About 1857, John Abbott moved to 236 North Main street, Concord, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, which was the family home till 1905. This house, previous to the Abbott occupancy of half a century, was successively owned by Dr. Peter Renton and Dr. William Prescott, physicians of note in their day.

Mr. Abbott was a man of great kindliness of nature and of unswerving integrity. Of a sweet and serene disposition and absolute uprightness in every relation of life, public and private, he held the respect and confidence of the community to a degree possessed by few. "Honest" John Abbott, as he was familiarly known, was frequently called upon to serve the public, and he filled nearly every official station in town. He was selectman in 1849 and 1851, and alderman in 1854. The city government was founded in 1853, and during the next twenty years he served twelve terms as assessor. This office seemed to devolve upon him by natural right because the public had such faith in his honesty and judgment. In January, 1856, he was elected mayor by the city government to fill the unexpired term of Mayor Clement, who had died on the thirteenth of that month, and he was five times subsequently elected to fill the office at the March meetings in 1856-7-8 and in 1866-7. No man has ever received the office so many times by popular vote, and no man has discharged its duties, including at that time the supervision of highways and the care of the poor, in a more honorable manner. Mr. Abbott was a trustee of the New Hampshire Savings Bank, a director of the Page Belting Company and a member of the City Water Board. In politics he was a Whig and among the founders of the Republican party. He was a regular attendant of the North Congregational Church, belonged in early life to the Odd Fellows, and at the time of his death was a member of Blazing Star Lodge, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. Mr. Abbott's tall and commanding form, six feet, four inches in height, made him a marked figure in any public gathering.1
  • John died on March 18, 1886 in Concord, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, at age 80 instantly of heart disease. His father died in the same way at the same age.2

John Boylston Abbott1

b. April 5, 1860
  • THIS LISTING HAS NOT YET BEEN AUDITED, AND MAY NOT BE ACCURATE; A.
  • John Boylston Abbott was born on April 5, 1860 in Concord, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.1
  • He was the son of John Abbott and Hannah Matilda Brooks.1
  • John Boylston Abbott was graduated in 1877 from Concord High School, and then received an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he spent two years. At the close of that period he went to Poughkeepsie, New York, where he received a thorough business education in Eastman's National Business College in the year following. In 1880 he went into the employ of E. M. Slayton, wholesale produce and provision dealer, Manchester, New Hampshire, where for nine years he was cashier and accountant. In 1889 he entered the Navy Pay Office in Washington, District of Columbia, remaining five years. He then took a course in law in the Columbia Law School from which he graduated in 1893, and was at once admitted to practice in the courts of the District of Columbia. The following year he accepted an offer to go to London, England, as confidential clerk of the Boston Rubber Shoe Company. After remaining in England two and one-half years he returned to Concord, and the same year (1897) he was appointed to a place in the pay department of the United States steamship "Texas," Captain Wise, from which he was promoted to chief clerk in charge of the pay department of the Naval Station at Port Royal, South Carolina. In 1898 he was city auditor of Concord, and the following year he spent in New York city in the office of a prominent firm of bankers and brokers. In November, 1900, he entered the employ of the William B. Durgin Company, manufacturers of silverware, Concord, as bookkeeper. The next year he was appointed assistant treasurer, and in 1904 was made treasurer. Upon the change in ownership after the death of Mr. Durgin, he became a director. Mr. Abbott has much of the enterprise and sauvity that has often been a characteristic of the family, and was a good business man and a pleasant companion. In politics he was a Republican, and for several years was moderator of Ward Four, Concord. He attended the North Congregational Church, and was a member of the New Hampshire Club in Boston. During his stay in Manchester he was adjutant of the Amoskeag Veterans, and had much to do with directing the military and social affairs of that organization.2
