  • Sara Jo Colvin was born on November 20, 1942 in Saint Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri.1
  • She was the daughter of Richard Orville Colvin and Helen Frances Cross.1
  • Sara Jo Colvin was a 1960 graduate of Shawnee Mission North High School, Shawnee Mission, Kan., and received her B.A. in Library Science from Emporia State University, Emporia, in 1964. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Social Sorority.

    She was Library Director at the Trinidad Carnegie Library in Trinidad for 12 years, and also worked with her husband in several family businesses in LaVeta, Trinidad and Olpe. She held licenses as an insurance agent and real estate agent. She was active in the Republican Party in Colorado.

    She was skilled in genealogy research, and she was an historian. She served as a volunteer for the Lyon County Historical Archives, Emporia, and received the President's Volunteer Service Award from the President's Council on Service & Civic Participation.2
  • Sara married Dennis Roy Murphy on September 5, 1964 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia, Lyon County, Kansas.2
  • Sara died on March 12, 2009 in Olpe, Lyon County, Kansas, at age 66.1
  • She was buried in La Veta Cemetery, La Veta, Huerfano County, Colorado.3
