Timothy Dorman1

b. October 24, 1757, d. December 23, 1835
  • Timothy Dorman was born on October 24, 1757, son of Timothy and Eunice (Burnham) Dorman of Boxford.1
  • He and Deborah Perley published their marriage intention.1
  • Timothy Dorman was a farmer. He built his residence, occupied in 1906 by John C. Ames.

    He responded to the "Lexington Alarm," served eight enlistments in the Revolutionary army, and one on board of a Salem privateer, "The Black Prince," which carried eighteen six-pound guns and a crew of one hundred and twenty to one hundred and sixty men, and which was burned in the Penobscot 14 Aug 1779, to prevent capture. He was under Gen. Washington in 1776, and at the battle of Saratoga and surrender of Burgoyne in 1777. He drew a pension after his seventy-fifth year. During his last years he was deaf and blind. His native integrity passed into the common remark: "As honest as Tim Dorman."1
  • Timothy died on December 23, 1835 at age 78.1

William Barnes Dorman1

b. April 20, 1835
  • William Barnes Dorman was born on April 20, 1835 in Boxford, Massachusetts.1
  • He was the son of William H. Dorman and Sarah Barnes.1
  • William Barnes Dorman was a druggist at Georgetown, Massachusetts.1
  • In the Civil War he was in the Banks expedition to New Orleans, and detached, by special order of the general, for hospital service. Later he was with the Mass. 59th regiment, and detached for hospital service. He was night and day, for eleven weeks, under constant fire of shot and shell before Petersburg.1
  • William married Mary Helen Spiller on October 27, 1866 in Byfield Parish, Newbury, Massachusetts. Two of their sons had office of first lieutenant in the Sons of Veterans; a third was in the U. S. Navy several years, was in the fighting off Santiago de Cuba, and in the action where Admiral Schley destroyed the Spanish fleet.1
  • After 1889, William Barnes Dorman was a manufacturing perfumer at Boston, Massachusetts.1
  • As of 1906, William Barnes Dorman and Mary Helen Spiller lived at Everett, Massachusetts.1
