Rev. Malcolm Douglass D. D.1

  • Rev. Malcolm Douglass D. D. was born on July 19, 1825 in West Point, Orange County, New York, son of Major David Bates and Ann Eliza (Ellicott) Douglass.1
  • He was graduated in 1846 from Trinity College, and was a tutor in Geneva, and from 1850 to 1859 was rector of several parishes in Western New York. He was rector of St. Paul's Windsor, Vt., from 1859 to 1872 , president of Norwich University 1872 to 1875, and rector of Christ Church, Andover, Mass 1875 to 1884.1
  • Malcolm married Sarah Elizabeth Hale, daughter of Rev. Benjamin Hale D.D. and Mary Caroline King, on October 14, 1851.1
  • Malcolm died on September 25, 1887 in Wareham, Massachusetts, at age 62 in church.1

  • Betsey Dow was born on October 17, 1803, daughter of Moses and Sarah Dow of Haverhill.2
  • Betsey married Syene Hale, son of David Hale and Hannah Emerson, about May 1, 1824.1
  • Several of her poems, under the signature of "Alma," appeared in the Cheshire Gazette between 1825-30.3
  • Betsey died on August 1, 1844 at age 40.1
