  3. Jack MacDonald, "Re: Samuel Allen, son of George Allen?," e-mail message from e-mail address to Steve Levine, Oct 18, 2015 at 12:31 AM, I previously listed Samuel Allen of Braintree as the son of George and Katherine Allen, however I have now removed that connection, having received the following reply to an email inquiry:

"Unfortunately, the Allen family is one of the most screwed up families in the U.S.A. About the only thing I can tell you about the Samuel Allen who was the son of George Allen and his second wife, Katherine, is that no one has ever come up with anything pertaining to him after he left Boston. The Samuel Allen generally attributed to George is not his, but is connected to the Samuel Allen of Braintree I believe.

"As far as George Allen's children are concerned, eight children have been verified through various documents. These are Rose, Henry, Ralph, William, Matthew, George, Samuel, and Gideon. Two others, John and Robert are very likely George's. John resided on George's homestead at Weymouth after George moved to Sandwich, and Robert was named John's brother in the inquest into his suicide in John's home. The last child that is most likely George's is Francis who was a Quaker at Sandwich and is believed to be one of the six brothers and sisters of Ralph (son of George) who were members. No one else fits the bill as the other Ralph Allen's children are known and through the process of elimination, Francis is it.

"With respect to the individuals you named, Caleb, James, Judah, and Thomas, there is absolutely no evidence to indicate that they even knew George Allen, much less were related to him. They are all connected to other Allen families in Barnstable County as far I have can tell. Unfortunately, the New England Families book is not very accurate when it comes to George's family. I have found a number of instances where it simply appeared that individuals were added to the family simply because of having the same last name and residing in Massachusetts.

"I believe if you trace into Samuel Allen and Sarah Partridge, you need to check out the Genealogy of Samuel Allen of Braintree. He is definitely not related to the George Allen of Sandwich either."
