  • Erastus Foote was born on September 19, 1777.1
  • He was the son of Obed Foote and Mary Todd.
  • Erastus Foote was admitted to the bar in Northampton, Massachusetts, and began his professional career at Camden, Maine. He was successively county attorney, senator of Massachusetts legislature, senator of Maine legislature immediately after the organization of Maine into a state and attorney-general of Maine. This last office he held for twelve successive years, and gave tone and character to the criminal jurisprudence of the state, alike honorable to himself and highly appreciated by the public.1
  • Erastus married Susan Carlton in 1812, as his first wife.1
  • Erastus married Eliza Carlton on July 9, 1820, as his second wife.1
  • Erastus died on July 14, 1856 in Wiscasset, Lincoln County, Maine, at age 78.
