She was the daughter of Corporal Benjamin Hale and Mary Taylor.²
Rachel married Major Jonathan Houghton on June 26, 1783 in Harvard, Massachusetts.³
In or before 1795, Rachel Hale and Major Jonathan Houghton moved to Waterford, Oxford County, Maine. He was a petitioner for the incorporation of that town in 1795, and appeared as a taxpayer on its first roll in 1797. He was a leading man in the town, had the title of "Major." He was selectman in 1805 and 1807.³
Rachel died of a cancerous breast.⁴
