Comfort Starr1

  • Comfort Starr was born on August 9, 1696, son of Deacon Comfort and Mary (Stone) Starr.1
  • As of 1720, Comfort Starr lived at Dedham, Massachusetts.1
  • In 1723, he bought 1000 acres of land in the North Parish of Killingly, afterwards selling a part, but reserving what still later became his homestead, a little west of Brandy hill, now in the town of Thompson, Connecticut. Quotations from the church records say that "Comfort Starr and others worked on the new meetinghouse; that Jan. 28, 1730, was kept a day of fasting and prayer to humble ourselves before God for our past trespasses and to implore the devine on us and all our concerns—more especially on the solemn transactions that are before us"—the formation of a church. Mr. Starr was a signer to the covenant. In sealed instruments he is styled "husbandman." A fine, curious desk, which belonged to him, and perhaps to his grandfather, and many of his deeds were still extant as of 1906.2
  • Comfort married Elizabeth Perley, daughter of Isaac Perley and Frances (?), in 1730.1
  • Comfort married on November 3, 1763 Mrs. Sarah Knapp of Killingly.3
  • Comfort died on February 13, 1775 in Killingly, Connecticut, at age 78.1
