  • He raised an insurrection in 1682 against the royal governor Cranfield, but being insane or drunk, perhaps both, and unsupported by other patriots, was taken, convicted of treason, sentenced to death and shipped from Boston to London, where he was kept in gaol some years. At last he was let off, being, not of sufficient importance to suffer for so dignified an offence, and his estate restored.3
