  • She was the daughter of Daniel Belden and Elizabeth Foote.1
  • The following was taken from the Hatfield Town Records:

    qwblockquotewq"Elizabeth, wife to Daniel Belden ye head of the family, together with Daniel Belden, John Belden and Thankful Belden, their childrren, were all of them slaine by the enemie September 16, 1696.

    "Sept. 16, 1696. The Indians came along from up Green River to the town, and assaulted Mr. Daniel Belden's house; took Mr. Belden, his son Nathaniel and daughter Esther captive, killed his wife and three children, and wounded Samuel and Abigail, but they recovered, altho' Samuel had a hatchet stuck in his head, and some of his brains came out at his wound. Samuel was born Apr. 10, 1687."qw/blockquotewq

    qwblockquotewq"The Indians making an Assault upon Deerfield, in this Present War, they struck a Hatchet some Inches into the Skull of a Boy there, even so deep that the Boy felt the force of a Wrench used by 'em to get it out. Daniel Belden1

  • Daniel Belden was born on November 20, 1648, son of William Belden, of Wethersfield, Ct.1
  • Daniel married Elizabeth Foote, daughter of Nathaniel Foote and Elizabeth Smith, on November 10, 1670.1
  • Daniel married on February 17, 1699 as a second wife, Hepzibah, widow of Thomas Welles, of Hatfield, whose three daughters had been, on 6 Jun 1693, knocked on the head by the Indians of whom one recovered. This wife, daughter of William Buell, at the onslaught upon Deerfield, 29 Feb 1704, was taken by the Indians and carried a short distance on the way to Canada, when her strength failed and she was killed. For his third wife, he took Sarah, widow of Philip Mattoon and daughter of John Hawkes of Hadley.2
  • Daniel died on August 14, 1732 at age 83.2
  • Daniel died on August 14, 1732 in Deerfield, Massachusetts, at age 83.1
