Conrad Bernard Desmarais1

  • Conrad Bernard Desmarais was born on August 16, 1926 in Concord, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, son of George A. and Loretta R. (Parent) Desmarais.

    He graduated from Sacred Heart Grammar School in 1940 and Concord High School in 1944. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until the end of World War II. After the war, Conrad worked at his own building construction business before returning to school, graduating from Wentworth Institute in Boston in 1953. He worked for architectural firms in Concord and Manchester for many years before going to work for the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, Bureau of Public Works, retiring in 1991.1,2
  • Conrad married Janet Belle Foote, daughter of John Webster Foote and Annie Frances Colby. Conrad and his late wife Janet built their own house on Bow Center Road and moved to Bow, Janet's hometown, in 1967.1,2
  • In Bow, Conrad served as a member of the town's building advisory committee and the school building committee. He was a former Scout Master for Concord Troop 78 and a life member of the American Legion Post No. 21.2
  • Conrad died on April 20, 2014 in Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, at age 87.1
  • He and Janet Belle Foote were buried in Evans Cemetery, Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire. "In lieu of flowers, those who wish can make a donation to the New Hampshire Historical Society.2
