Howard Cary Dunham1

  • Howard Cary Dunham was born on January 17, 1813 in Abington, Massachusetts.2
  • He was the son of Ezra Dunham and Molly Cary.
  • He joined the Methodist Episcopal Church of in 1832.1
  • Howard Cary Dunham married Eliza Ann Drew. They had two children, both of whom died before their father's death in 1906.1
  • He entered the New England Conference.1
  • During the Civil War, he spent two years in the Army hospitals as the agent of the Christian Commission. Failing health compelled him to ask to be relieved of the burdens of the pastorate, and he entered the work of the American Peace Society and for fourteen years he was thus engaged; but failing eyesight compelled him to leave that congenial service. In his blindness, the family read much to him, and he was thus kept in touch with passing events.1
  • Howard died on January 21, 1906 at age 93.1
