Samuel Hemingway1

  • Samuel Hemingway was born in June, 1636 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. He was a member of the Roxbury Church, and was one of the largest taxpayers and land owners in Roxbury. He settled in New Haven, and later moved to East Haven, was a very busy man and an influential citizen. He was owner of the Grist Mill about 1681 and 25 years later, his sons established the Fulling Mill. He served his town in many and varied capacities, such as settling boundary questions, securing mill grants, revising village as town clerk performing minor duties . He was a neat and handsome penman and was rated the third "richard man in the town. He had ten poles of land valued at £147, and he had 69 1/2 acres.2
  • He was the son of Ralph Hemingway and Elizabeth Hewes.1
  • Samuel married Sarah Cooper on March 23, 1662 in New Haven, Connecticut.2
  • Samuel died on September 20, 1711 at age 75.3
