Capt. Andrew Hinman1

  • Capt. Andrew Hinman was baptized in April, 1690.2
  • He was the son of Capt. Titus Hinman and Hannah Coe.2
  • Capt. Andrew Hinman was one of the most active and enterprising men of his time, and an extensive dealer in new lands. He purchased of the Indians a large share of the present town of Salisbury, which he again sold, and one of the Stiles family of Woodbury, removed on to it from Woodbury, where some of the descendants still lived in 1852. He purchased several lots of land in Waterbury, which was originally laid out to or purchased by Thomas Judd, of Waterbury, and other lands.

    Capt. Andrew Hinman confessed his baptismal covenant at Woodbury in 1708, and was a member of the church there, 1716. He was a member of the General Assembly of Conn., 8 sessions from 1725 to 1740.1
