Sarah Perley1

b. May 4, 1757, d. August 12, 1837
  • Sarah Perley was born on May 4, 1757. Tradition says she was very handsome, and when the small-pox prevailed in the vicinity, she, fearing its evil effects upon her beauty if she should take it, entered the pest-house, the Nelson house near by, for the varioloid. She died there.1
  • She was the daughter of Isaac Perley and Hannah Lakeman.1
  • Sarah married Nathaniel Hale, son of Abner Hale and Keziah Smith, on May 4, 1780. They were third cousins once removed.2
  • Sarah died on August 12, 1837 at age 80.1

Sarah Perley1

  • Father: Amos Perley1 b. January 28, 1748/49, d. December 6, 1830
  • Mother: Sarah Smith1 b. March 16, 1757, d. September 29, 1842
  • Sarah Perley was born on April 3, 1786 in Boxford, Massachusetts.1
  • She was the daughter of Amos Perley and Sarah Smith.1
  • Sarah Perley, Fanny Perley and Olive Perley lived together in the same house, and "the course of true love ran smooth" for many years. At length, however, a carpenter divided the house into one and two thirds; Sarah occupied the former, and Fanny and Olive the latter. When Olive, who is called "seamstress," died, she gave all her property to Fanny, and Fanny buried her before the front door of the house. Fanny, by will, ordered that the body of her sister be exhumed and buried in the grave with herself, that fine headstones be erected, that the grave be protected by an iron fence, and that the balance of her estate be given to a friend.2
  • Sarah died on November 25, 1858 in Augusta, Kennebec County, Maine, at age 72, and, by will, protected her grave by a heavy iron fence, and gave the residue of her property to Colby University. Their home was Winthrop.3

  • Sarah Peabody Perley was born perhaps 1817.
  • She was the daughter of Samuel Perley and Nancy Peabody.1
  • Sarah Peabody Perley lived with Lucy Ann Perley and Jeremiah Perley in 1880 at Boxford, Massachusetts; Lucy and Sarah, sisters, were third cousins once removed of Jeremiah. His mind had been wrecked for several years. A few moments' conversation, however, would hardly betray his real mental condition.2
