- Lucy Balch was born on February 21, 1779, daughter of Rev. Nathaniel and Joanna (Mitchell) Balch of Bradford, now Groveland. She was a very handsome woman, and was known among her acquaintances as "the Lily of the Merrimac Valley."1
- Lucy married Samuel Perley, son of Nathaniel Perley and Sarah Dutch of Ipswich Village, on January 16, 1799.1
