Ezra Hale1

  • Ezra Hale was born on March 19, 1737/38 in Newbury, Massachusetts.2
  • He was the son of Benjamin Hale and Judith Swett.1
  • By the will of Sarah, widow of his uncle Stephen, dated 10 Jan 1759, proved 3 Nov 1760, he was made executor and devisee of her house, land, etc. (37: 191).

    On 13 May, 1762, Ezra Hale of Newbury, cordwainer, conveyed to Ebenezer Pierce of Newbury, shipwright, 315 rods of land with dwelling-house, given him by his aunt Sarah, widow of Stephen, being part of about an acre bought by said Stephen
    of Richard Tappan (118: 98).

    By his father's will, dated 28 Jan 1764, and proved 27 Sept 1770, he received 3 a. of salt marsh and £2 in money (46: 169.)2
  • Ezra married Anna Knight on October 30, 1764 in Newbury, Massachusetts.2
  • On 23 Nov 1766, Ezra Hale of Newbury, cordwainer, bought of Woodbridge Cottle, merchant, and Benjamin Lunt and wife Alice, 60 rods of land with buildings in Newbury, bounded on county road and by Jonathan Pearson, etc. (123: 3).

    In 1770, Ezra Hale of Newbury, cordwainer, bought of widow Susannah Noyes 2 a. of land in Newbury, bounded northerly by Nehemiah Dow, etc. (132: 105).2
  • Ezra died on October 16, 1791 in Newbury, Massachusetts, at age 53. Nothing appears of his estate in Essex probate records.2
