Jeremiah Pritchard1

  • Jeremiah Pritchard was born on September 24, 1754.1
  • He was the son of Paul Pritchard and Hannah Perley.1
  • Jeremiah married Elizabeth Smith of Hollis.1
  • He enlisted in Capt. Towne's company, and was at the battle of Bunker Hill. He was afterwards a lieutenant in the regular army, was in the battle of Hubbardston, all those leading to the surrender of Burgoyne, and also the battle of White Plains, where he received a wound, on account of which he received an officer's pension during life.

    Returning to New Ipswich from Hollis, he built a tannery and conducted the business for many years. He had a common school education and served his town, for many years, as clerk, selectman, representative, etc., up to l802. He was the first commander of a troop of cavalry of that vicinity.1
