New York, where he remained until he purchased a farm at Ridgeway, New York, from the Holland Land Company. The records of the Holland Land Company show that the east part of lot 38 was articled to Jonathan Swett in the year 1830; this land was deeded to him October...1

- Joseph, under the guidance of the Rev. Mr. Barnard of Marblehead, by whom he was styled "a young man of strict justice, great industry, enterprising genius, quick apprehension and firm resolution, but of small fortune," became the founder of a temporary commercial prosperity of Marblehead, which town subsequently paid one of the highest taxes in the Colony, and was one of the principal ports on our New England coast.3
