  • Dr. Jonathan Swett was born on June 22, 1780 or June 23, 1780 in Wenham, Massachusetts.1
  • He was the son of Josiah Swett and Prudence Dodge.1
  • Dr. Jonathan Swett was baptized on July 2, 1780 in Wenham, Massachusetts.1
  • He was educated at Deerfield, Massachusetts. He later studied medicine in Dartmouth College, but probably did not graduate. He practiced his profession in Maine for some time ; later went to Northfield, Massachusetts ; from there returned to Deerfield ; later removed to Elbridge, New York ; then to Weedsport, New York, where he resided about four years, during which time he built two canal boats, with the help of an old ship carpenter, and also built a house ; from there removed to Rochester, New York ; from there removed to a place near the present village of Brockport. New York, where he remained until he purchased a farm at Ridgeway, New York, from the Holland Land Company. The records of the Holland Land Company show that the east part of lot 38 was articled to Jonathan Swett in the year 1830; this land was deeded to him October...1

  • He was the son of Capt. Benjamin Swett and Hester Weare.3
  • Joseph married Hannah Warde, as his first wife.2
  • They lived "in that part of ancient Hampton, which is now (1852) Hampton Falls, on the road from Newburyport to Portsmouth." He was an influential man in his town: a selectman in 1693, 1698, 1712, 1713 and 1717, when he is called captain. He was representative to the Provincial Assembly in 1693, 1698 and 1708, and probably at other times.6

  • Joseph married Hannah Devereux on May 8, 1708 in Marblehead, Massachusetts, as her third husband.2
  • In 1734, Joseph Swett of Marblehead drew a lot in Amherst, NH, "for his brother Stephen Swett." This was Joseph Swett, Sr., then 77 years old. These lots in Amherst were given to veterans of King Phillip's War or their closest male heir.3

  • Joseph Swett Jr. was baptized on August 25, 1689 in Marblehead, Massachusetts, an only child.1

  • He was the son of Joseph Swett.2
  • Joseph, under the guidance of the Rev. Mr. Barnard of Marblehead, by whom he was styled "a young man of strict justice, great industry, enterprising genius, quick apprehension and firm resolution, but of small fortune," became the founder of a temporary commercial prosperity of Marblehead, which town subsequently paid one of the highest taxes in the Colony, and was one of the principal ports on our New England coast.3
