Jesse married Martha Elliott, daughter of James Green and Judith Colby, on June 15, 1872 in Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, as his second wife, and her second husband.⁷
The census of 1880 shows: Ensign Jesse Colby, 82, a farmer; and Patty Green, wife, 78, keeping house;
living at Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.
Also in the household was a boarder, Lucretia Fuller, 72, from Vermont, without occupation.⁸
Jesse died on October 7, 1887 in Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, at age 89.²
He was buried in Alexander Cemetery on River Road, Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.⁹

John Colby was born on February 28, 1749 in Amesbury, Massachusetts.³
He was the son of Abraham Colby and Elizabeth Blaisdell.^1,2
About 1768, John Colby settled on the southwest corner of his father's lot on Wood Hill, Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire. The lot assigned to him was twenty acres off from the southerly side of the purchase, and he built his house on the side hill south of the brook crossing the road.⁴
John Colby was several times elected to the board of selectmen.⁵
He was one of the founders of the Methodist Church in Bow.⁵
John married Hannah Simonds a woman of mixed blood of native stock.⁶
In 1789 John Colby bought 50 acres from John Bryant, in the northwest end of lot 4 in range 17 of Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.⁵
