- , Vene C. Gambell and Nellie Frances Webster went to at St. Lawrence Island, Alaska, as missionary/teachers to the Yupik peoples there.1
- Apparently there were some birth complications for Nellie and late that year they returned to the lower 48 for Nellie to have an operation.1
- On May 20, 1898, Vene C. Gambell and Nellie Frances Webster set sail on the Jane Grey to return to St. Lawrence Island. .1
- On May 22, 1898, the bottom was lost in the ship and all three were drowned.1
