Moses Atkinson1
b. September 22, 1734, d. June 14, 1814
- Moses Atkinson was born on September 22, 1734 in Newbury, Massachusetts, son of Ichabod and Pricila Atkinson.2
- Moses was a deacon in Dr. Spring's church in Newbury. Originally he was a shoemaker, but soon became a merchant, and followed that occupation for life. They lived at "Belleville," Newbury, near the house afterward built by Thomas Hale, son of Benjamin. They had no children, but immediately after the death of her brother Benjamin, Sarah took to her own house his children, Mary and Ebenezer, and about three years later their brother Thomas, all three of whom she and her husband brought up with loving care and tenderness as their own. Their kindness was repaid in the life-long love and affectionate attentions of those to whom they thus stood in the place of father and mother. Mrs. Atkinson was a woman of thorough and careful reading, and of habits of profound and accurate thought. The testimony of those who knew her best places her very high in rank. among the women of her day. To these qualifications she added those of a prudent and skillful housekeeper, of a woman of rare good temper, good sense and tact, and of a nature overflowing with love and charity.1
- Moses married Sarah Hale, daughter of Thomas Hale and Mary Smith, on September 6, 1781 in Atkinson, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.3
- Moses died on June 14, 1814 in Newbury, Massachusetts, at age 79.1
