- Major Nathan Hayward was born in 1791 or 1792 in Massachusetts, son of Luther Hayward.2,3
- In 1816, Major Nathan Hayward moved to West Bridgewater (now North Bridgewater (now Brockton), Massachusetts) from West Bridgewater.3
- He married Rhoda Cary, daughter of Howard Cary Esq. and Huldah Packard, on November 17, 1818 in the Fourth Church of Christ in Bridgewater, now the First Congregational Church, Brockton, Massachusetts. (Intention not recorded.)4
- March 23, 1824, he was commissioned a Major.5
- September 26, 1847, the dwelling house belonging to Nathan Howard was slightly damaged by fire at four o'clock a.m.6
- The census of 1850 shows: Nathan Hayward, 58, a farmer with $25,000 real estate; and Rhoda Hayward, 55; listed with Simion F. Hayward
living at North Bridgewater (now Brockton), Massachusetts.
Also living there were Nathan Leach, 44, a laborer; and Margaret Allen, 13, from Ireland.2 - December 17, 1857, a small building owned by the heirs of Major Nathan Hayward, situated in the Tilden District, caught fire. Loss was small.7
