- The birth record of his son George says Barnet was born in Kief, Russia. Murray Goodman told me "Even though Barnet is reported to have been born in Kiev, this is doubtful. Kiev was considered a holy city to the Russian Orthodox Church and no Jews were allowed to live there. All around the city of Kiev was the province of Kiev (Kievskaya Guberniya) and this province was filled with little villages (Shtetlach) loaded with Jews who could live right up to the city limits of Kiev but not within Kiev itself. This was where Barnet lived and to where his wife, Marcia, was banished with her family."4,5

- and immigrated in 1899.
- His daughter, Mrs. Mary Weiner, writes that he was quite a heartbreaker when he was young. He told her he was engaged to eight women before marrying Marsha. She writes that she believes her mother, Marsha, may have come to America later than Barnet, along with her two sisters and two brothers. Upon arrival, she found Barnet living with a 'loose lady,' and Marsha threw her out of the house.
