John Cary was born about 1610 near Bristol, Somersetshire, England.¹
He was the son of William Cary.²
John Cary immigrated in 1639 to Duxbury, Massachusetts.^3,4
John married Elizabeth Godfrey, daughter of Francis Godfrey and Elizabeth (?), in June, 1644.⁵
He was one of the first to emigrate from Duxbury to Bridgewater ; his house was a quarter of a mile east of the meeting-house in West Bridgewater. He was the first town clerk of the town of Bridgewater.³
John died on November 2, 1681 in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.^1,7
He and Jonathan Cary were memorialized on a cenotaph in Ashland Cemetery, Brockton, Massachusetts, along with Dea. Recompense Cary, Dea. Jonathan Cary and Jonathan Cary Jr.⁸
