Theodore Clarence Hurd1,2

  • Theodore Clarence Hurd was born on January 19, 1837 in Newton, Massachusetts, son of William and Sarah B. Hurd.1
  • He was educated Framingham Academy and Union College.1
  • He was graduated from Harvard Law School. He was admitted to the Middlesex Bar in 1860, and served as district attorney for six years. He was a lieutenant in the Forty-fifth Massachusetts Regiment, and acted as judge advocate for the department of North Carolina. He was a member of the Loyal Legion and the G.A.R., and a prominent member of several social clubs. He was a representative to the General Court in 1867, 1869, 1870, and 1871, serving on important committees, and was a member of the aldermanic board of 1873.3
  • Theodore married on May 1, 1862 in Newark, New Castle County, Delaware, to Mary Elizabeth Platt. They had four children.4
  • Theodore Clarence Hurd was Clerk of the Middlesex County Courts, having held this office since 1872.1
  • Theodore married Alice May Howard, daughter of Capt. William Henry Howard and Harriet Maria Rogers, on September 23, 1879 in Watertown, Massachusetts, as his second wife.4
  • The census of 1900 shows: Theodore Clarence Hurd, 63, clerk of the County Court; listed with Roger H. Hurd
    living at 94 Main Street, Winchester, Massachusetts.
    Also living there was Theodore's daughter by his first wife, Katherine Galt, 33, a widow; and a grandson by his first wife, Theodore C. Hurd, 8. Also, a sister, Myra Hurd, 39; and two Irish servants, Bessie Reed, 22, a cook; and Mary Comer, 23, a chambermaid.5

  • Theodore died on May 25, 1911 in Winchester, Massachusetts, at age 74.6
  • He was buried in Edgell Grove Cemetery and Mausoleum, Framingham, Massachusetts.6
