William Hammond1

  • William Hammond was baptized on October 30, 1575.2
  • He was the son of Thomas Hammond of Cavenham, Co. Suffolk and Rose Trippe.1
  • William married Elizabeth Payne on June 9, 1605.1
  • William Hammond probably immigrated before 1634 to Watertown, Massachusetts, as he does not appear to have accompanied his wife and child that year. Probably he did not settle immediately in Watertown, as he was not a proprietor in Feb., 1636-7, but he was so in 1642.3,4
  • William Hammond was admitted freeman May 25, 1636, and was selectman 1648.5
  • In a suit, in 1652, Thomas Hammond vi. John Bridge, it appears that he had an uncle, Page.5
  • William died on October 8, 1662 in Watertown, Massachusetts, at age 86, aged 90. His Will, dated July 1, proved Dec. 16, 1662, mentions wife Elizabeth; son John; grandson Thomas, son of his son Thomas; daughters Elizabeth House, --(?)-- Barnes, and Sarah Smith.5

William Hammond1

  • William Hammond was baptized on September 20, 1607 in Lavenham, Suffolk, England, William Hammond Jr. probably sailed for New England in one of the ships that arrived in the fall of 1633. He was killed by Indians in June 1636. Not believed to have married.2
  • He was the son of William Hammond and Elizabeth Payne.1
