b. about 1768
  • THIS LISTING HAS NOT YET BEEN AUDITED, AND MAY NOT BE ACCURATE; A.
  • Edna Hale was born about 1768 in Newbury, Massachusetts. Her birth does not appear in the town records of Newbury, but in the Essex Probate Office (vol. 50, pp. 4, 219) it appears that her mother was appointed her guardian 26 Oct 1773, she being then about seven years old.2
  • She was the daughter of Matthew Hale and Mehitable Short.1
  • In Feb 1784 (her mother having then probably m. Abel Sawyer) Abner Greenleaf, who had m. her sister Sarah the Nov. before, was appointed her guardian. Partition of the real estate left by their father was had between herself and sister Sarah in 1785 (Essex Prob. Office, vol. 57, p. 231), and Edna sold out her share to her sister Sarah 22 Apr 1790, being doubtless then of age, as appears from receipt fled in the Essex Probate Office (vol. 61, p. 48).2
