- In the spring of 1805, Ruth Hinman and Edman Oviatt moved to Braceville, Trumbull County, Ohio. Mrs. Edman Oviatt one day heard the pig squealing in the pen, and, going out to see what was the matter, saw a bear seize the pig and rush for the woods. She called her husband, and they followed it for a mile before he shot the bear.5
- The census of 1850 shows: Edmond Oviatt, 66, a farmer with $2000 real estate; and Ruth Oviatt, 68; listed with Mary Oviatt, James Lawton and Cynthia Lawton
living at Braceville, Trumbull County, Ohio.
