John Legarde Perley1

  • John Legarde Perley was born on February 16, 1824.1
  • He was the son of John Perley and Ann D. Haskell of Newburyport.1
  • John died on March 20, 1856 in Callao, Peru, at age 32, after an illness of twelve days, and was buried in the Protestant cemetery in Bella Vista, about one mile from Callao. His business was ship brokerage and shipping guano from the Chincha Islands. He never married. His father, says Geo. B. Blodgette, Esq., received his estate, which netted about S4000.1

  • Jonathan Perley was born on January 29, 1710/11.2
  • He was the son of John Perley and Jane Dresser.1
  • Jonathan Perley and Mercy Robbins published their marriage intention on December 2, 1732.2
  • Jonathan Perley and Mary Dwinnell published their marriage intention on May 11, 1749.2
  • Jonathan died on March 9, 1755 at age 44. He died intestate, and administration was granted his widow Mary, 5 May 1755. The amount of the inventory was £02 11s. 10d; his dwelling house was valued at £15. James Dwinnell was appointed guardian of his children, both by his second wife, 20 May 1758.3

Joseph Perley1

b. June 3, 1695, d. November 15, 1758
  • Joseph Perley was born on June 3, 1695 in Ipswich, Massachusetts.2
  • He was the son of Timothy Perley and Deborah (?)1
  • He probably built, and lived in, the eastern part of the dwelling house which, in 1906, was owned by Charles M. Perley, the remaining portion being of more recent construction. Towards the close of his life his intellect became clouded, and in 1738, several years after his father's death, he was declared, in a legal sense, non compos mentis, and his cousin Jeremiah Perley was appointed his guardian.1
  • Joseph died on November 15, 1758 at age 63.1

Judith Perley1

  • Judith Perley was born on July 13, 1777 in Rowley, Massachusetts.2
  • She was the daughter of John Perley and Hannah Mighill of Rowley.1
  • Judith Perley was the first woman to carry an umbrella in the town of Rowley. It was a red one and she walked to Byfield to church. It is also said that her wedding bed she ever after occupied, not leaving it for a night even, till the Thursday before the Monday of her death. She was an excellent motherly woman and her family refer to her with affection.2

  • Judith married Nathaniel Rust on December 24, 1801 as his second wife.2
  • Judith died on March 20, 1871 in Ipswich, Massachusetts, at age 93 of senile debility, a widow.3
