State of New Hampshire
Rockingham
On this 12th day of January 1821 personally appeared before me Hall Burgiss Esquire, Justice of the Court of Sessions for the said County of Rockingham, being a Court of Record for the said County of Rockingham. Thomas Colby, aged sixty four years, resident in Bow in said County who being first duly sworn according according to law doth on his oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary war as follows: On the sixth day of January 1776, I enlisted for twelve months in the Company commanded by Captain Samuel Richards in the Regt. Commanded by Col. John Stark in the New Hampshire line in the Revolutionary war against the Common Enemy. I served said one year faithfully in said war and was honorably discharged in January 1777 at Thuringham in Massachusetts. And I do solemnly swear that I was a resident citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818; and that I have not since that time, by gift, sale, or in any manner, disposed of my property or any part theereof, with intent thereby so to diminish it, as to bring my self within the provision of an act of Congress entitled 'An act to provide for certain persons engaged in the Land and Naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary war' passed on the 18th day of March 1818; and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me, any property or securities, contracts or debts due to me; nor have I any other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed, and by me subscribed. My occupation is that of a carpenter but am not of sufficient ability to pursue it in any degree by reason of a rupture which renders me unable [to] perform any hard labour -- in family residing with me a wife seventy two years of age sickly and unable to attend to the common concerns of house work and capence for Physical aid. And one grandchild to take care of my wife which grandchild's name is Hannah Elliot, 13 years of age. their capacity to contribute to their support is not one quarter of of the capence of their support.
