He earned a bachelor's degree in engineering in 1947 from Clarkson University, Potsdam, N.Y.

Mr. Colby was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion James Caldwell Post 185, Caldwell, and a member of the choir at Holy Trinity Evangelical Church.²
Marshall married Dorothy M. (?) in 1952 or 1953.²
In 1957 or 1958, Marshall Colby moved to North Caldwell, Essex County, New Jersey.²
Marshall died on November 2, 1998 in the scene from injuries sustained in an auto accident that occurred on West Greenbrook Road in North Caldwell, Caldwell, Essex County, New Jersey, at age 80.²
His funeral was on November 6, 1998 at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Caldwell, Essex County, New Jersey.²
