Sam Colby. - Halstead Norman "Sam" Colby Jr. was born on June 3, 1936 in Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.
- He was the son of Halstead Norman Colby and Audrey Pearson Noyes.
- Halstead Norman "Sam" Colby Jr. moved to Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, where he resided most of his life in the house his father built.
He graduated from Concord High School, class of 1954, and attended UNH. He retired in 1994 after 38½ years working as a professional civil engineer with the state highway department.
During his years in Bow, he was a member of the Bow Police Department, and served as a part-time officer and volunteer firefighter.
He served as chairman of the Bow Historical Committee and was a member of the Highway Safety Committee.
He was an avid ham radio enthusiast for many years (WA1CBP) and past N.H. Army Mars director and supply officer.
He enjoyed many fishing trips to the North Country and to Canada. After his retirement, he enjoyed watching NASCAR, lacrosse games, working in the woods, and making furniture in his woodshop for his wife's craft business.1 - Halstead married Constance M. Smart on February 8, 1958.
