David Hammond

- David Hammond was born on November 30, 1757 in Rowley, Massachusetts, son of David Jr and Susannah Hammond.1
- David Hammond served as a substitute for his brother, Thomas, at the Battle of Bunker Hill, and continued in service to the close of the Revolutionary War. While in the army, he got information from the books of the army physician that was of great importance to those afflicted with the mumps, to which hundreds have testified. The secret has been in possession of certain members of the family.2
- In the spring of 1791, David purchased from Richard Dow, the farm later owned by his grandson, Charles F. Hammond, near Wood Hill.3
- David married Hannah Eastman, daughter of Stephen Eastman and Anna Colby, on April 12, 1792 by Zaccheus Colby in Pembroke, New Hampshire.4
