  • Eugene L. Hansen was born on January 15, 1942 in Portland, Cumberland County, Maine. He attended local schools, graduated from Portland High School and went on to the University of Maine. He was a member of the Andrew Sabres Drum & Bugle Corp and participated in their highly successful journey to France for the Lions International conclave in 1962. As an adult he continued to be very active with Drum & Bugle Corps as an instructor for the Dirigo Jets, and as a partner and instructor in the Defenders and the '5th Maine Regiment' for many years. He worked part time, after school at Campbell's Bookstore on Congress Street, and as 'coffee girl' at the Fine Arts Theater, where he met his future wife. After college he went to work in the accounting department at Burbank & Douglass and then J. E. Gould, and finally in the collections and business offices at Verizon, retiring early due to disability. He had a zany sense of humor and a positive and upbeat outlook. He was an avid sports fan and also spent many hours at his computer.1
  • Eugene married Joanne Provencal, daughter of James Vincent Provencal and Evelyn Gertrude Priest, in 1965, as her second husband. He had two children by a previous marriage: Susan Dorothy Hansen, born 1 March 1955; and James Eugene Hansen, born 19 Sep 1960 in Portland, Oregon.1
  • Eugene died on November 7, 2009 in Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts, at age 67 following a long battle with various complications of diabetes.

He was buried at Brooklawn Cemetery.1
