Jonathan Rand was born on January 28, 1767 in Harvard, Massachusetts, son of Silas and Sarah (Farwell) Rand.^1,2
Jonathan married Mercy Taylor, daughter of Charles Taylor and Mercy Stearns, on January 1, 1789 in Harvard, Massachusetts, by Rev. Isaiah Parker, M.D., Harvard's first Universalist minister.³
Jonathan died on July 2, 1817 in Harvard, Massachusetts, at age 50.⁴

Mercy Rand was born on March 12, 1771 in Massachusetts.
Mercy married Benjamin Hale, son of Corporal Benjamin Hale and Mary Taylor, on October 6, 1822 in Harvard, Massachusetts, as his second wife.³
The census of 1850 shows: Benjamin Hale, 86, a farmer; and Mercy Hale, 80; listed with Abel Hale
living at Waterford, Oxford County, Maine.
Living with them were Sarah Rand, 36, and Susan Stokes, 18.⁴
Mercy died on February 25, 1858 in Waterford, Oxford County, Maine, at age 86.
She was buried in Elm Vale Cemetery, Waterford, Oxford County, Maine.
