- Joseph Rich of Charlton was born on March 6, 1759 in Sutton, Massachusetts, son of Elisha and Mary (Davis) Rich. Joseph was a farmer, and later, a miller. He settled in Charlton, removed to Stockbridge, and thence to De Ruyter, N. Y.2
- Joseph married Lodema Conant, daughter of Josiah Conant and Martha Conant, on June 14, 1787 in Dudley, Massachusetts.1
