  • Horace Austin Sawyer Jr. was born about April 12, 1845 in Boston, Massachusetts.1
  • He was the son of Horace Austin Sawyer and Sarah Hale.1
  • The census of 1850 shows:
    Horace Sawyer Jr., 5, at school; in the household of
    Horace Sawyer, 32, a cooper with $1800 real estate; and
    Sarah Sawyer, 27;
    living at Chelsea, Massachusetts.2

  • The census of 1860 shows:
    Horace A. Sawyer Jr., 15, a clock maker; in the household of
    Horace A. Sawyer, 38, a cooper with $2300 real estate and $300 personal estate; and
    Sarah H. Sawyer, 35;
    living at Lynn, Massachusetts.3

  • On from May, 1863 to June, 1863, Horace A. Sawyer enlisted for the draft. . He was a Cooper. His residence was shown as 186 Salem Street.4
  • He was a Civil War Veteran, drummer, Co.H, First. Mass. Inf, member of General Lander G.A.R. Post # 5, Lynn, Mass.5
  • Horace married Hannah A. Sawyer on June 19, 1867 in Lynn, Massachusetts, by Rev. James M. Whiton, pastor of First Church. Hannah apparently lied about her age. She was only 15 at marriage, and said that she was 20.6
  • In 1897, he was a salesman.1
  • Horace died on March 30, 1897 in Lynn, Massachusetts, of Bright's disease (uraemia.)1
  • He was buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn, Massachusetts.5
