  • Charles Frederick Thurston was a representative to the general court, and a ward officer.2
  • He was born on August 28, 1844 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.1
  • He was the son of Daniel Holt Thurston and Jane Drown Shackley.1
  • The census of 1850 shows:
    Charles F. Thurston, 6, attending school; in the household of
    Daniel H. Thurston, 37, a farmer with $1500 real estate; and
    Jane D. Thurston, 34;
    living at Kennebunk, York County, Maine.3

  • The census of 1860 shows:
    Charles Thurston, 16; in the household of
    D. H. Thurston, 48, a cracker baker with $3000 real estate and $5000 personal estate; and
    J. B. Thurston, 44;
    living at Cambridgeport, Massachusetts.4

  • He enlisted, September 16, 1861 , in the first Massachusetts Cavalry at the age of seventeen years and served through the war, taking part in every engagement of the Army of the Potomac after the second battle of Bull Run.1
  • He was taken prisoner at the battle of Aldie, Virginia.1
  • He became a member of his father's firm, Thurston, Hall & Company, cracker bakers, in Cambridgeport, Massachusetts, 1865, continuing until 1891, when the company was dissolved; he entered the employ of the National Biscuit Company as manager of different plants, remaining until 1901, when he was appointed to his present position of inspector in the United States custom house in Boston.2,1
  • Charles married Annette Maria Holden on March 15, 1866 in Cambridgeport, Massachusetts.1

  • Mr. Thurston was a Republican and was prominent in public life. He was representative to the general court from his district in Cambridge from 1877 to 1878, and often served his party on committees and as delegate to nominating conventions.1
  • The census of 1880 shows: Charles F. Thurston, a cracker baker; and Annette M. Thurston listed with Fannie J. Thurston and Carrie W. Thurston
    living at Cambridgeport, Massachusetts.
    They had a servant, Ella Miller, 29, from New Brunswick.6

  • He lived in Cambridge until 1892, when he removed to Malden, Massachusetts.
  • Charles married Malina E. (Lee) Wilmarth. Melina was widow of Seth Wilmarth.1
  • He was an active member and has been on the standing committee of the First Universalist church of Cambridge. As of 1908 , he attended the Centre Methodist Episcopal church of Malden. He is a Free Mason, member of Blue Lodge and Chapter, and Post No. 40, Grand Army of the Republic, of Malden.1
