Hiram Colby lived built a house near the sawmill, owned by his son Philip. He lived in the brick house across from the Bow Mills Bank on South Street. His sons Philip and Hiram, took over the farm after he died.
In 1883, Hiram Colby moved to Concord, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.
Hiram died on March 30, 1885 in Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, at age 81.
He and Martha Sargent were buried in Alexander Cemetery on River Road, Bow, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, along with Philip Colby, Josephine Colby and Cynthia A. Colby.

Humphrey married Elizabeth Cummings.⁴
Humphrey C. Perley Colby and Elizabeth Cummings were divorced before 1880.
The census of 1880 shows: Perley H. Colby, a farmer; listed with Syntha Colby and Willeby Colby
living at Dunbarton, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.⁵
